Police warn of man released after animal-cruelty conviction
York Regional Police is alerting the public about what they call a high-risk offender who has been released after serving a seven-month sentence for cruelty to animals and breach of probation.
Thinath Ganendralingam, 21, was released on probation Monday in the Oak Ridges area of Richmond Hill. Police say he poses a risk to “vulnerable members of our community” and to animals.
Conditions of Ganendralingam’s release stipulate he cannot be around those under 16 years old unless in the company of another person over the age of 21. He also cannot own or have custody of any animal or reside in any residence where there are animals.
Ganendralingam is currently under “strict supervision,” by police’s high-risk offender unit and probation office.
He is described as having brown skin, straight black hair and brown eyes and is said to be five-foot-five inches tall, slender and with a medium build. Police added Ganendralingam has moustache, a pierced left ear and a scar on his left cheek.
Police are not discussing the specifics of the crimes Ganendralingam was convicted for, citing policy.
