Two people were apprehended by the police, while transporting the partially charred remains of a murder victim in a van.

They were accosted in Arangala, Malabe, on Saturday night.

Although the Arangala – Kahanthota road is not a location which is constantly patrolled by the police, a sudden search operation carried out by traffic police on Saturday night, brought to light a murder while attempts were being made to conceal it.

Our reporter who visited the location said that a police patrol discovered the remains of a murder victim in a van, when they carried out a sudden search on Saturday night.

While two suspects travelling in the van in question were arrested on the spot, two more suspects were apprehended in Piliyandala.

The police have received information that the chief suspect is among those who have been arrested. The murdered victim is a 33 year old army deserter from Poddala in Galle.

The partially charred remains of the victim, were subjected to a magisterial inquest by the Acting Chief Magistrate of Kaduwela. The Magistrate had ordered for the remains to be taken to the police mortuary in Colombo.

According to information at hand, police believe that the murder was prompted by an extramarital affair.

Further questioning has revealed that the victim had been assaulted inside a house in Boralugoda, Athurugiriya, before several tires were forced around him and set alight.
