Air Canada cracks down on oversized carry-on baggage with new checking policy
Air Canada is increasing efforts to police carry-one baggage. Its new red tag hand luggage policy came into effect on Monday.
Air Canada officials say increased enforcement actually means a“faster, more efficient trip through the airport.”
The Star’s David Bateman took to Pearson International Airport to test out the new system with Air Canada vice-president of customer experience, Renee Smith-Valade.
Air Canada specifies that a personal item can include a backpack, briefcase or laptop computer measuring up to 16 x 33 x 43 cm.
A standard piece of hand luggage can measure up to 23 x 40 x 55 cm, including wheels and handles.
The bag-tagging program will expand to include Air Canada’s services at all other domestic airports by June 8.
