264 Sri Lankan peacekeepers return home from Haiti

264 members of the Sri Lanka Army return home after a successful mission in Haiti. The remaining members are due to return to the island in three batches.

The Sri Lankan army made an outstanding contribution to build Haiti, serving as Peacekeepers in the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti for eleven years since 2004. Commanding Officer of the Peace Keeping Mission Col. Ashoka Wijenaike pointed out that that the contribution made by the Sri Lankan Army in transforming Haiti a destabilized country into a peaceful nation is a massive victory.

 

Commanding Officer Col. Ashoka Wijenaike said that he was serving as the Commanding officer of the 20th Brigade and is proud to mention that the 20 peacekeeping missions comprising members of the Security Forces assisted Haiti in the discharge of civil activities. He said that they had made a noteworthy contribution to Haiti.
