Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council express concern over the sudden resignation of Customs Chief
May 26, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council on Tuesday expressed concern over the sudden resignation of Director General of Sri Lanka Customs, a statement said.
“It is with great regret that we have noted the sudden resignation of the Director General of Sri Lanka Customs,” Shippers’ Council said.
“Jagath P Wijeweera has been one of the few director generals of Customs who initiated and hands on approach in solving importers and exporters issues spontaneously.”
He was also spearheading the Customs initiatives on e-Commerce and rendered an enormous service by providing leadership to his team and adopting the balance approach with all stakeholders.
“We appreciate the efforts of Wijeweera and acknowledge his straightforwardness, honestly and transparency when dealing with Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council and its associate members,”
“We urge the authorities to ensure the good work commenced by the Customs will continue in order the trade and related services would benefit.” Shippers’ Council further said.
