Special Rewards Identity Card and Insignia for War Heroes
With a view of allowing due recognition to the war hero families and differently-able war heroes in the society, the State Ministry of Defence under a notion of the State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene organized a meeting with the participation of heads/representatives of government and private sector institutions at the Ministry of Defence yesterday (29).
The meeting was chaired by the State Secretary of Defence Mr. APG Kithsiri. Senior tri-forces officials, representatives of several state institutions, renowned banks, leasing/insurance companies, transportation providers, and administrators' of the education sector were also present at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting Mr. Kithsiri stated that, this project would be aimed at uplifting the living standards of family members of fallen war heroes, differently-able service personnel those who have secured their retirement on medical grounds and for differently-able service personnel those who are in active service. In this process they would be issued with a 'Special Reward Identity Card' which would open up new avenue to them to get their work done without delay and also many more facilities form any organization, he noted.
During the meeting a number of proposals were discussed with a view to ease the day-to-day requirements of war heroes and their family members. Among those, avenues were sought to uplift the living standard of war heroes while lessening some of the financial policies imposed by the Banking/Insurance/Leasing facility providers. The conference with the education sector was aimed at the welfare of the students/children of deceased and disabled war heroes.
Further the methodology of launching this mega project and the eye-catching way of placing it in the hearts and minds of the populace was also briefed. The entire process including the releasing of a stamp, an insignia for beneficiaries, melodious theme song and 3600 degree print/electronic advertising were described during the meeting. All the income collected via the theme song would also be diverted into this project.
In the initial stage a vide media campaign would be carried out including an island wide social awareness campaign. An official web site dedicated for this noble cause will also be opened under the project.
The next meeting will be chaired by the Minister Ruwan Wijewardene for the final discussions and arrangements.
