Paddy purchasing intensified
Purchasing paddy in the Ampara District has been intensified. A purchasing centre was set up at Mahanagapura in Ampara.
The residents of Mahanagapura who were badly affected due to terrorist activities are now engaged in cultivation without any hindrance. The farmers have requested the establishment of a new to sell their harvest.
Meanwhile the officials of the Paddy Marketing Board visit the paddy fields to explain to the farmers about selling their produce. The farmers in Ampara used to sell their paddy to the businessmen at the low rate of 14 rupees a kilo.
Meanwhile the paddy stocks of the past Maha season in Polonnaruwa and Ampara districts are being transported to government storage facilities. Transportation of 50,000 metric tons of paddy bought by the Paddy marketing Board during the past Maha season, to the government storage facilities in Divulapitiya and Veyangoda has been underway.
