CID presents information over Wele Suda – teledrama actress appears in court

The Criminal Investigations Department on Friday informed the courts on the progress it has made regarding Wele Suda who is currently held in remand custody for several drug-related charges.

Teledrama actress, Udayanthi Kulatunga also appeared in court on Friday. The CID informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate that the individual known as Wele Suda had made cash deposits on a number of occasions to the bank accounts of tele-drama actress Udayanthi Kulatunga. CID further informed the court that investigations have been conducted around 3000 telephone numbers that Wele Suda had contacted while he was residing abroad

CID also informed the court that the assets of Udayanthi Kulatunga were being investigated and that ten million rupees that were deposited to her bank accounts were later transferred to the bank account of her brother. That all these funds were deposited to the individual knows as Wele Suda by representatives in the country through Sri Lankan currency.

Actress, Udayanthi Kulathunga stated that the CID questioned her over unknown phone calls and that later the CID had frozen all her accounts, in addition to which they had also frozen accounts that contained money transferred through her brother in law. She further added that she does not know Wele Suda and that her sister has been engaged in business for over twenty two years and this where the money came from.

The case will be taken up again on July 3.
