Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister demands Rs2bn from Bandula; sends letter of demand
June 25, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has sent a letter of demand to Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena demanding two billion rupees as defamation charges.
Gunawardena who has participated in a debate on a local TV channel has said that three million US dollars has come from Raj Rajaratnam of USA to Karunanayake’s account.
The letter of demand sent to Gunawardena through Attorney-at-Law G.G. Arulpragasam says that the statement made by Gunawardena is an absolutely false statement and deliberately concocted to defame his client.
“I have been specifically instructed by my client to state that you have made the aforesaid defamatory statement knowing very well that my client was discharged from the High Court case on 18th May 2015 from all charges made against my client,”
“In the event of your failure to pay the said sum of 2 billion rupees within 14 days from the date hereof, I have further instructions from my client to institute legal proceedings against you.” the letter of demand further stated.
