“We won’t dissolve the parliament without enacting 20th amendment”: Rajitha Senaratne

June 25, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said, the government will not be dissolve without enacting 20th amendment to the constitution which includes election reforms.

“Everyone supported in removing presidential powers,” Senaratne said.

“But they have a problem when something affecting to their powers,”

“Even I will be affected. But this has to be done,”

“My self and President is in a firm decision about this amendment as we promised in 100 day good governance,”

“So we are not dissolving the government without enacting it.”

He said this to reportes at a media conference held Wednesday, Colombo.

Sri Lanka’s cabinet earlier this month approved the 20th Amendment which increases the number of parliamentary seats to 237 from the current 225.

Under the approved system 145 Parliamentarians will be elected under the first past the post system, 55 under the district proportional representation system and 37 from the national list.
