Wrong-way driver dies in I-26 wreck
A 37-year-old Sumter man died in Richland County from injuries suffered in an early morning vehicle wreck.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was driving a Toyota east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 26 when the car collided head-on around Lake Murray Boulevard with a Freightliner tractor trailer around 2:30 a.m.The truck driver, Spurgeon Kirk, 59, was not injured, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said.He said the interstate was closed for four hours following the wreck, which remains under investigation.
