Booklet recalls most damaging SC wildfire

- thestate.com

A short history of the most devastating wildfire in South Carolina history is helping raise money for the American Red Cross.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission and the Coastal South Carolina chapter of the Red Cross sell copies of the 56-page booklet on Friday at the Red Cross Booth in Grand Park at Myrtle Beach's Market Common.

The book tells the story of the April 2009 wildfire that charred 34 square miles on the Grand Strand. The fire destroyed 76 homes and damaged nearly 100. The booklet is available for a $5 donation to the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is staffing the booth as part of Myrtle Beach Military Appreciation Days.
