QR code for issuance of fuel further delayed

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) yesterday announced that the rollout of the National Fuel pass QR Code system would be delayed.
It was earlier announced that gas stations around the country would start issuing fuel using the National Fuel pass QR Code system from Monday (25).
However, the ICTA announced that the fuel pass would only be used in selected gas stations.
The Fuel Pass would be implemented island-wide only after a few days, Director of the ICTA Dasun Hegoda said.
Hegoda said that they wanted to expand the system across the country.
“Right now, the pilot project was only held in Colombo. Now, we will implement it in selected gas stations in all 25 districts,” he said.
Until the fuel pass system is implemented, fuel worth Rs.1,500 for motorcycles, Rs. 2,000 for three-wheelers and Rs.7,000 for other vehicles will be issued from gas stations.
The fuel pass was introduced to ensure a weekly fuel quota for motorists given that Sri Lanka is unable to import fuel in adequate quantities for the next year, the Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera said.
“The Fuel Pass QR was successfully tested at 20 locations country-wide on 4,708 vehicles,” the Minister said on Sunday (24).
