Senior State Counsel Shamindra Wickramaratne yesterday strongly objected to the Fundamental Rights Violation petition filed by Reverend Father Amila Jeevantha Pieris.
The Senior State Counsel said that the priest had not heeded the Fort Magistrate’s order that he appear before court, on 27 May 2022. He had violated a Fort Magistrate’s Court order not to enter York Street, Fort. He is suspected of unlawful assembly, and violence on office workers, who used the streets.
Rienzie Arsecularatne, President’s Counsel, who appeared for the petitioner, said that his client had not received the communication sent from the Fort Magistrate’s Court. It was not a case of his client absconding.
The Supreme Court gave both parties time to file any additional documents.
Arsecularatne, PC, appeared with Chamindri Arsecularatne for the petitioner, Rev. Fr. Pieris.
The case will be supported on 01 September.
The bench Comprised Justice L. T. B. Dehideniya, Justice S. Thurairajah and Justice Yasantha Kodagoda.
