Sri Lanka relaxed visas to remove a barrier to Korean investment
ECONOMYNEXT – A recent relaxation of visas for investors would make Sri Lanka more attractive to investors, Korea’s Ambassador to Colombo Santhush Woonjin Jeong has told Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
Korea had been the top foreign investment generator in the 1980s and Korea” desire to regain that position by increasing investments,” a statement issued after the meeting said.
Prime Minister Gunawardene has said there’s potential for Korea to invest in the production of agricultural machinery, medicine and medical equipment and renewable energy and fisheries.
“The Korean investors could benefit from the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement giving access to huge Indian markets,” Gunawardene has said.
