CA issues summons on State Minister Nishantha

The Court of Appeal yesterday issued summons on SLPP MP and State Minister Sanath Nishantha.This summons is in respect of a contempt of court application filed by Attorney-at-Law, Priyalal Sirisena, alleging that Sanath Nishantha caused an affront to the dignity of the Magistrates when he referred to the manner that bail had been granted by the Fort Magistrate to persons responsible for the Galle Face Violence on 09 May 2022.
The petitioner requested the Court to issue summons on Sanath Nishantha and order him to show cause as to why he should not be punished for contempt of court under Article 105/3 of the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
The summons is returnable on 13 October 2022. The case will be called again on that day.President’s Counsel Upul Jayasuriya appeared with Sachiru Andrahannadi for petitioner Attorney-at-Law Priyalal Sirisena.The Court of Appeal Bench comprised Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice R. Gurusinghe.
