Sri Lanka’s state-run Litro drops cooking gas prices

- economynext.com

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s state-run Litro Gas has reduced the cooking gas prices with effect from midnight Wednesday October 05 to reflect reduction in global LP gas prices, an official said.

A 12.5kg cylinder of LP gas sold by Litro will be reduced by 271 rupees to 4,280 rupees, while a 5kg cylinder will be dropped by 107 rupees to 1,720 rupees. A 2.3kg gas cylinder will be sold at 800 rupees after a reduction of 48 rupees.

“We are doing this price reform according to the newly introduced price formula based on global prices,” Litro chairman Muditha Peiris said speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

“As a company we want to pass the benefit of the global price reduction onto the general public,” he added.

This will be the third time Litro gas has reduced prices in the last three months.

Asked about upcoming tax reforms, Peiris said: “The upcoming taxes will affect our company 100 percent, but by reducing the firm’s operational costs and total costs we expect to pass the benefit onto the consumers.”. (Colombo/Oct05/2022)
