Sri Lanka opposition MP Kabir Hashim appointed COPA chairman
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kabir Hashim will head the parliament’s Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), a statement said.
The MP was named for the position unanimously, parliament said on Wednesday October 05.
On Monday, parliament’s selection committee nominated 27 members each to the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA).
The SJB has been calling for the chairmanships of COPE, COPA and the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) be given to the opposition.
SJB parliamentarian Harsha de Silva already chairs COPF. However, he withdrew his name from the COPE membership on Tuesday to make way for ex COPE chairman Charitha Herath who complained that he had been excluded.
