SJB, JVP, SLPP dissidents vote again

Budget 2023 was passed in Parliament yesterday with a majority of 43 votes. The vote on the Budget taken at 5.30 pm. The budget received 123 votes in favour and 80 votes against. Two MPs abstained.

The SJB and JVP voted against the Budget at the end of a 13 day debate on the third reading of the Appropriation Bill. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and other northern parties were not present in the chamber.

The second reading stage vote taken on 22 November. There were 121 votes for the buget and 84 votes against.The debate on the Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2023 commenced in the Parliament at 9.30 a.m. on 23 November.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, presented the 2023 Budget to parliament on 14 November aimed at creating long-term stable economic growth.It is the 77th budget of independent Sri Lanka.
