Udaya wants public, private sector workers paid on weekly basis in view of economic crisis

- island.lk

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila, MP yesterday (25) proposed that both public and private sector workers be paid on a weekly basis.

The former Power and Energy Minister claimed that it would help both the cash-strapped government and private sector to cope up with the continuing economic crisis.

The Colombo District lawmaker said so at a media briefing held at PHU party office, Pita Kotte.

Attorney-at-Law Gammanpila pointed out that in many parts of the world salaries were paid weekly or twice a month.

Pointing out that the economic crisis erupted well over a year ago, the ex-Minister said that Wickremesinghe-Rajapaksa government, main Opposition Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) and JVP-led Jathika Jana Balavegaya (JJB) have failed to reveal how they expected to address the issues at hand.

The ardent nationalist said that the UNP and its breakaway faction SJB couldn’t absolve themselves of the current crisis as loans (International Sovereign Bonds) amounting to USD 12.5 bn obtained during yahapalana rule (2015-2019) was one of the primary reasons for the financial meltdown. (SF)
