Matthew Fisher 5/34, Hassab Hameed 81 put England Lions in control vs Sri Lanka A

The England Lions took a firm grip of the first Test match against Sri Lanka A who were bowled out for a paltry 136 with 25-year old seamer Matthew Fisher claiming career best figures of 5 for 34 as the Englishmen ran up an imposing 249 for 3 wickets for a first innings lead of 113 on the opening day of the first Test at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
The Lankan frontline came a dropper to Fisher’s bouncy short pitched bowling as the right armer capped his return from injury layoff in only his fourth international game following his debut for England versus the West Indies in 2022 with his best ever performance with the ball. Only Sadeera Samarawickrama came good with the bat for the locals stroking a defiant 43 off 61 inclusive of 2 boundaries.
England Lions skipper Hassab Hameed made sure they got into the box seat leading from the front with an accomplished knock of 81 off 107 hitting 8 boundaries and a six. Tom Haines remained unbeaten on 62 off 72 inclusive of 9 boundaries while Akex Loos made 56 off 69 containing 8 boundaries and a six.
