Nishan Madushka continues magical record run with unbeaten 207 in helping Sri Lanka A to 580/3

In a continuation of the magical batting exploits that has thrust him into the realms of record breaking stuff that began with his 1000-run feat off 5 innings in the domestic circuit last year, Niishan Madushka continued his amazing batting exploits in pounding his way to a record unbeaten 207 off 370 deliveries in steering Sri Lanka A out of troubled waters to a healthy 580 for 3 wickets at stumps as the hosts erased the balance 103 arrears conceding just two wickets on the third day of the First Test match against England Lions at the SSC Grounds on Thursday. It was the 24-year old Madushka’s second ton off the English in three innings following the one in the warm up match as the right-hander displayed tremendous staying willpower in batting out the last two days on an unbeaten vein in staking a truly rightful claim for a call up to the big international stage at a juncture the country’s cricket has been riddled by half hearted performances in a let down by most of the top batters.
The Lankan total was also bolstered by top contributions from skipper Nipun Dhananjaya who was unbeaten on 89 off 131 containing 15 boundaries, Nuwanidu Fernando 80 off 70 with 11 boundaries and 2 sixes and a gutsy knock of 73 by overnight batsman Lakshitha Munasinghe who converted from yesterday’s 14 to a praiseworthy 73 off 107 hitting 11 boundaries and 2 sixes.
