The National Business Excellence Awards is an annual award competition conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) with a view to recognising business enterprises which have demonstrated excellence in business, whilst contributing to the economic progress of the country.
Moreover DIMO won Gold awards in four other categories, thereby collecting the most number of Gold awards and most number of awards at the event.
Gold awards were won for Excellence in Business and Financial Performance, Excellence in Performance Management Practices, Diversified Group of Companies Sector and Extra Large Category.
The National Business Excellence Awards recognise and reward contributions made by business enterprises to the economic progress of the country, recognise enterprises that have created capacity for economic growth and employment generation, recognise enterprises that have built sustainable market competitiveness, recognise enterprises that have institutionalised best practices and business excellence and recognise the enterprises that have demonstrated their capacity to invest.
The evaluation criterion includes Business and Financial Performance, Global Reach, Knowledge Integration, Technology Investments, Capacity Building, Excellence in Performance Management, Practices, Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility.
In his acceptance speech DIMO Chairman Ranjith Pandithage mentioned that DIMO was born in difficult time during World War II and that the success enjoyed today is solely possible due to the DIMO team. He went on to identify the DIMO Team – as the DIMO Tribe, due to the fact that a team is about winning and performing, whilst a tribe is a much richer term of phrase.
He further stated that a tribe is a place you belong to whereas a team is something you play in once in a while. And that a tribe consists of a culture that passes from generation to generation, unlike in a team.
DIMO had an exceptional financial performance during 2010/2011 and is continuing the same upward trend in the first two quarters of 2011/2012. From a purely automobile based partnership, DIMO has developed into a diversified and public quoted organization having representations in every sphere of engineering.
These include medical engineering, building management systems, power engineering, material handling, storage and warehouse solutions, power tools, fixing solutions, agricultural equipment, lighting solutions, power systems, refrigeration, ship repairing services, fluid management solutions, etc.
The noteworthy contributors for DIMO’s financial performance in 2010/2011 were TATA Commercial Vehicles Sales, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Sales, Agriculture Machinery Division, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Service, TATA Commercial Vehicles Service, Mercedes-Benz Parts and Accessories, Lighting Solutions, Truck and Bus Tires and Heavy Machinery Equipment.
To cater the growing demands and opportunities in the post-war market, DIMO is involved in a great expansion drive in their network. There are five DIMO owned full scale branches Island wide in Matara, Kandy, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Jaffna.
In addition DIMO runs 12 display showrooms islandwide in Yakkala, Puttalm, Ambalangoda, Hatton, Padaviya, Welimada, Dambulla, Vavuniya, Akkaraipattu, Ampara, Ratnapura and Embilipitiya.
