Commonwealth parliamentary session to be held in SL
Sri Lanka will host the 58th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) session in September this year with over 800 representatives from 54 Commonwealth nations participating in the session, Government Information Department announced.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association was established in 1911. The main objectives of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union are promoting good governance, democracy and protection of human rights in member countries.
Speaker Chamal Rajapakse was elected as the Chairman of the Union at the 57th session of the CPA held in London.
Chairman of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association executive committee President Allen Hasselhurst and General Secretary William Sheja were here yesterday and held discussions with Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratne and Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.
