Former AG called to give evidence in Ekneligoda case

Homagama Magistrate T.G.S.A. Perera today ordered to call Former
Attorney General Mohan Peiris on June 05, to give evidence in the
magisterial inquiry into the disappearance of Journalist Prageeth

The Magistrate earlier on March 26 reserved the order after the state
challenged the validity of the transcript copy of the statement made
by the former AG made in Geneva last year that Ekneligoda sought
asylum in a foreign country.

The counsel for the complainant Sandya Ekneligoda produced the
document when the prosecution objected to call the former AG to give
evidence without any proof of him making the statement in Geneva.

disappearance of the journalist in the Habeas corpus case filed by
Sandya Ekneligoda.

The case was filed in the Court of Appeal by Sandya and her two sons
Sathyajith Sanjaya Ekneligoda, and Harith Sooriyabandara Ekneligoda in
connection with disappearance of the journalist since January 2009.

They sought a court order compelling the respondent’s to produce
missing journalist before the court.

They cited DIG CID Nandana Moonasinghe, Dig Jayantha Kulathilake, the
HQI Homagama, IGP and the AG.

Chrismal Warnasuriya with Nalaka Jayasuriya appeared for the complainant.

Deputy Solicitor General Shaveendra Fernando appeared for the Attorney General.
