President says the country will protect those who love the motherland

President Rajapaksa has emphasized that the country will be safeguarding individuals who love the motherland.

 

The opening of the Swimming Pool and the Life Saving and Lifeguard Training Centre of Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya took place today under the patronage of the President. The President who arrived at the school for the function first offered floral tributes to the Dharmapala statue. 28 million rupees was expended on the first stage of the Swimming Pool Complex. Of this 14 million rupees had been given by the Taiwan Red Cross Society under the guidance of the Sri Lanka Red Cross. The President was greeted by a swimming pageant at the opening of the Swimming Pool. The President’s arrival at the school was a significant and memorable occasion for the students.

Addressing the students, the President said the students should be trained to love the motherland. It is of no use securing strength and courage, if the native country is not loved. The President said he believed that persons who love the country will always be protected and safeguarded by the country.

The President opined that sport is another important part of life. It enables students to improve patience, courage and the strength needed to confront future challenges. He noted that those who work for the country and not for personal gains lead happy lives. He said they did not hate if challenged. They cannot do so. These should be accepted with content. The President advised the children to accept them as part of their life and be geared to receive it.

Ministers Bandula Gunawardena, Gamini Lokuge and Wimal Weerawansa, Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, School Principal K.D. Wimalasena, the staff and a large gathering were present.
