Tourism Sector Earnings Increase

The tourism sector has recorded a fast growth by earning US$ 370 million in the first half of 2011.

The Central Bank ofSri Lankahas stated that the tourism sector has become one of the fastest growing industries in the country.

The Bank’s data state that revenue from the tourism sector had climbed to Rs. 41 billion (US$ 370 million) from Rs. 27.9 billion (US$ 245 million) from the previous year.

Meanwhile, data of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has reveled that tourist arrivals to the country continue to increase.

Tourist arrivals had risen rising by 36.9 % during the first half (January-June) of 2011, with a total of 381,538 arrivals to the country in comparison to 278,652 arrivals during the same period last year.
