Ananda OBA donates ‘Ananda College four’ for rowing crew

The Ananda Old Boys Association had the ceremonial launch for the newly donated coxed four boat at the Colombo Rowing Club yesterday.

The boat was donated by the OBA to celebrate the success of the Ananda College rowing crew’s achievements in the recent years. The Rs. 1.3 million Wingtech racing boat is an addition to the already existing arsenal of four racing boats of Ananda College. The boat is named after the prominent late old Anandian Mike Udabage.                                                                                                                                             At the launch, former President Mike Udabage was remembered for his service and dedication towards Ananda College rowing. Mike Udabage who rowed for the Colombo Rowing Club was one of the exemplary products of Ananda College. He was the Head Prefect and the recipient of the Fritz Kunz prize, awarded to the most outstanding student. Udabage was also the President of Ananda Rowing and was instrumental in guiding and assisting the Ananda College Rowing crew for many years until his death.
Ananda College were the champions in the Inter-Monsoon regatta and won the recently concluded Under 19 Championship of the Rowing Nationals.
Principal of Ananda College L.M.D Dharmasena, OBA President Thilak Karunarathne and the coach of Ananda College Ahmed Aslam were present at the event.
