CA Sri Lanka Members’ Benevolent Society seminar on taxation

The Members’ Benevolent Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka has organised a seminar on taxation, scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 25 January from 8.30a.m. to 1p.m. at the Institute’s Auditorium, No. 30A, Malalasekera Mawatha, Colombo 7. 
 

The seminar will discuss the recent amendments to tax legislation proposed by the budget; and the implications of subsequent reviews and re-reviews on such proposals as to the exact “modalities” of implementing them.
The aim of this seminar is to give an opportunity for the participants to listen to the final version of such refined proposals first hand from a senior member of the Fiscal policy team of the Treasury.
The seminar will also feature a presentation on the amendments to the appeal procedures which have not been widely discussed in the previous seminars.
Dhammika Gunathilaka, the Senior Tax Advisor to the Department of Fiscal Policy will be the keynote speaker at the seminar who will present the details of the amendments to income tax, NBT and ESC. Dept. of Inland Revenue Deputy Commissioner B.A.D.D Herath will discuss changes to VAT Acts and SVAT. Secretary to Tax Appeal Commission K.A.T. Kaluarachchi will discuss appeal procedure and functions of newly formed tax appeal commission.
There are five experienced income tax experts in the panel who will give their brief comments and the participants will be given an opportunity to clarify their doubts during the open forum.  The panel consists of Gajma and Co., FCA, Tax Consultant and Managing Partner N.R Gajendran, Ernst and Young, FCA, Partner Tax Lakmali Nanayakkara, PWC FCA, Director Tax Hiranthi Rathnayake, KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton and Co., LLB, Principal Tax and Regulatory Suresh Perera and BDO Partners Head of Tax Kumar Raj.
The Members’ Benevolent Society of CA Sri Lanka was established by the council in 1983 which was a brainchild of late D.S.R. Tharmarathnam, ex-council member and Vice President of the Institute.
The society manages a fund with a view to provide financial and other assistance to its members to progress in their careers; facilitate networking and fellowship; and promote their wellbeing through education on various subjects of topical interest. Presently there are over 600 chartered accountants who are members of the society.
