Farmers demand continuation of pension
(Srilankamirror) - Farmers staged a protest at Kadapanaha in Anuradhapura yesterday (Feb. 11) to demand the continuation of the pension scheme for them.
JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha led the agitation, in which the participants alleged they had not received their pension since last September.
Former party MP Namal Karunaratne was due to lead a similar demonstration in Dambulla this morning.
Agrarian minister S.M. Chandrasena has admitted following an allegation by Mr. Lalkantha that although farmers have contributed their pension instalments on time, the government was yet to make the payments on its part.
