Shaw: I'm humbled once again
In a previous column where I suggested new names to replace Woodrow Wilson, I’m ashamed to say I overlooked Herman Stern of North Dakota. Stern incredibly saved the lives of 125 German and Austrian Jews living under Nazi control. Despite many roadblocks from the Nazis and the U.S. State Department, Stern brought them here after he pledged his personal assets, and found them jobs. At some point, there should be a Herman Stern School somewhere in North Dakota.
