Opposition MPs summoned to vote against Emergency regulations
All opposition MPs had been asked to be present in Parliament tomorrow (27) to vote against the Emergency regulations, Chief Opposition Whip Kandy District SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella said yesterday.
“The way the government is planning to use the Emergency regulations is very clear. People have witnessed how the Galle Face protesters were thrashed by the members of the armed forces and the police. That is a foretaste of what is to come. Therefore it is the duty of all MPs who uphold the rule of law and democratic principles to vote against the continuance of the Emergency regulations.
I have written to all MPs and asked them to be present in Parliament tomorrow (27) when the debate on continuing the emergency regulations will be taken up and to vote against it,” Kiriella said, adding that the SJB has already decided to vote against it.
