Advancing Isipathana show Vidyartha is beatable

Isipathana College and Wesley College qualified for the Super League Stage from Division 1 Segment A Group 2 A of the ongoing inter-school under 19 league rugby tournament last week.Isipathana College stole the show last week when they overcame their stiffest hurdle which came in the form of Vidyartha. The score line which read 25-23 shows the game was close, but Isipathana prevailed in the second half and exposed the fact that their opponents could be beaten in a crunch encounter.

In the final points standing after five weeks of rugby Isipathana finished first, Wesley second and Vidyartha third. Only the top three teams in each group will make it to the super league round. For the record the fourth placed side in Group 2 A. St. Peter’s College suffered their defeat this season when they went down to Science College 12-10.

In Division 1 Segment A Group 1 A Royal and Trinity are through to the next stage of the league tournament. The third slot in the group should go to St. Joseph’s College, but they have one more fixture left in the first round which is against St.Anthony’s Katugastota; which is scheduled for August 1 in Colombo.
