Aragalaya became victim of elitist conspiracy – Dilan

SLPP Reform Committee MP Dilan Perera says that the Aragalaya protest came to an end as it was trapped in a conspiracy by the elite supported, by the new rich.Addressing the media in Colombo, on Thursday, Perera said that the end of the protest was an unfortunate loss for the ordinary public.

“The conspirators behind Ranil Wickremesinghe and Basil Rajapaksa hatched a plot to ruin Aragalaya,” he said.

He accused the government of making use of Emergency regulations to suppress social media and thereby prevent people from knowing the truth. The next step would be the suppression of the mainstream media, he added.

“The political crisis, that lasted four months, resulted in Mahinda Rajapaksa going home on May 9, Basil Rajapaksa on June 9, Gotabaya Rajapaksa on July 9. The Aragalaya campaign ended on August 9.

“It would have taken a different course if Mahinda Rajapaksa had resigned, at least by 9 am, on May 9, and the protesters were not attacked on that day. Then, we could have appointed an SLPP Prime Minister, under Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s presidency,” Perera said.

SLPP Reform Committee members MPs Dr Upul Galappatty, Attorney-at-Law Wasantha Yapabandara and Dr Tilak Rajapakshe also addressed the press.
