Sri Lanka coal power plant breakdown won’t affect Aug 15 power cut
ECONOMYNEXT – The breakdown at Sri Lanka’s Norochcholai coal power plant will not affect the scheduled power cut duration for Monday August 15, Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said.
“The power cut for today will remain at one hour and 20 minutes and will be extended from tomorrow as appropriate,” Ratnayake said, adding that the “minor breakdown” in the generator will take approximately 14 to 16 days to repair.
The breakdown has occurred in Unit 1 of the plant.

Power & Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said that Unit 2 is undergoing scheduled maintenance work, and Unit 3 will continue operations.
