ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka police is seeking the assistance of the public to identify 34 protestors that police said are suspected of damaging the Presidential Secretariat building on July 09.
On July 09, a mass gathering of anti-government protesters stormed the President’s House, the Presidential Secretariat and Temple trees, the prime minister’s official residence.
Police released pictures of the suspects on Saturday August 20 asking members of the public to call if they have any information about their whereabouts, on the following numbers: 011- 2083049, 075- 6371563 or 1997 (hotline).
Protestors, some civil society groups and opposition lawmakers have accused the government of President Ranil Wickremesinghe of a crackdown on peaceful protestors, though the government maintains that any arrests are legal and only apply to those who have broken the law. (Colombo/Aug20/2022)
