Sri Lanka shares gain in mid-day trade
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka shares gained on Wednesday (19) after slipping for three-straight sessions as buyers entered the market to buy beaten-down shares however it was in small numbers, analysts said.
The main All Share Price Index rose 0.98 percent or 86.78 points to 8,952.83 at 1100 hours.
“We are seeing buyers coming back in to the market after the continuous slip but it’s in very small numbers; the turnover is a good indication of it,” a top market analyst said.
Most liquid index 0.76 percent or 20.25 points to 2,694.58.
However, although the market rose as much as 1% within the first hour of trade, it generated only 949 million rupees in turnover.
Top gainers were Sampath Bank, Aitken Spence and Richard Pieris. (Colombo/Oct19/2022)
