Ronald Perera, PC, new Chairman of BOC

Mr. Ronald. C. Perera, PC, has been appointed the new Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon, succeeding Mr. Kanchana Ratwatte, by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. This is the second time he has headed BOC where he was Chairman from Jan. 2025 to Nov. 2019.

Perera, a leading lawyer commanding a wide practice, is expected to continue as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation (SLIC) to which he was appointed last August by President Wickremesinghe. He is also the acting Chairman of the National Lotteries Board.

Perera who took silk as a President’s Counsel in 2012 is a son of Mr. EP Paul Perera, who served as a cabinet minister in the JR Jayewardene administration and also held other senior appointments following his retirement from the public service.

Perera has experience in Civil and Criminal litigation, negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts. He has specialised in Commercial Law, Banking Law, Industrial Law, Injunctions, Defamation, Election Petitions, Civil Appeals, Revision Applications, Writ Applications, and Fundamental Rights Cases.Additionally, he has appeared in several Commercial Arbitrations and has challenged the validity of several bills before the Supreme Court.Perera is an LLB graduate from the University of Colombo and holds an LLM in International Trade Law from Northumbria University. He is an alumnus of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo where he completed his primary and secondary education.
