At age 23, Nishan Madushka, the discovery from Moratuwa’s Moratu Vidyalaya, whose willow works reached the dizzy run making skyline in spellbinding style has found the deserving reward of being noticed by the national selectors. Madushka being named in the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand has indeed propelled the Ragama CC batting start to realising the dizzy dream a young cricketer dreams of to donning the national cap at the gruelling Test level. The call up sees Madushka .one step away from making that big leap that is the fulfilment to a career launch.

Madushka happens to be yet another star on the cricketing horizon to emerge from the cricket crazy city of Moratuwa that has produced the fire branded stroke maker in Duleep Mendis and contemporary star Kusal Mendis, another product to emerge from Moratu Vidyalaya.

Madushka’s roller coaster fairy tale odyssey that began with realising the domestic 1000-run milestone in a magical wand of just five innings making him the youngest Sri Lankan to do so, was soon to raise the bar on the bigger stage against foreign opposition. His most recent form run hammering three centuries including a double century against the England Lions did serve in further catching the spotlight.

Madushka’s run orgy began with a century 150 in the warm up game for the Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI followed by a record 241 in the second innings of the first unofficial test and 100 also in the second innings of the second test. With a domestic bumper run aggregate of 3380 heightened by 11 centuries and 14 half tons Madushka has certainly arrived as an exciting discovery who has sparked great expectations for the country of a new star equipped to walk the walk with the willow.
