Sri Devananda College took a step closer to earning the Division I promotion as they rode on a century by Mithila Charles to record a first-innings win over Piliyandala Central in the Under 19 Division II Tier ‘A’ cricket quarter-final at Piliyandala on Tuesday.

The team from Ambalangoda doused a threat from spinner Thineth Salinga, who bagged 13 wickets including eight second-innings’ scalps, to post 139 runs at close in pursuit of a target of 145 runs to win.

Sri Devananda will now meet Holy Cross College, Kalutara in the semi-final. The winner of that match will not only secure a place in the final but will also earn a place in the Division I category.

Sri Jayawardenapura MV scored a first-innings win over Bandaranaike College to secure the semi-final berth in the Under 19 Division II Tier ‘B’ tournament at Gampaha on Tuesday.

Sri Jayawardenapura MV will now meet Henegama Central in the semi-final.
