Fuel quota up from next month
Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, yesterday announced that the fuel quotas, currently allowed on the National Fuel Pass (QR) system, will be increased from next month.
The decision was taken on Thursday at a meeting held with the marketing, finance and commercial divisions of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
The current quotas were revised on 04 April, in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The revised quotas were as follows: Three-wheelers: 8 litres, motorcycles: 7 litres, buses: 60 litres, cars: 30 litres, land vehicles: 25 litres, lorries: 75 litres, quadric cycles: 6 litres, special purpose vehicles: 30 litres and vans: 30 litres.
The Ministry had planned to revise the quotas to their original amounts on 18 April, but later decided to maintain the increased quotas.The Minister said that the decision to increase the quotas was taken in order to ease the current fuel shortage in the country. He also said that the government is working to increase the import of fuel, in order to meet the country’s needs.
