On August 10, ten students of Ladies’ College traveled to New Delhi and joined St Mark’s World School under the Student Exchange Programme funded by the India-Sri Lanka Foundation, High Commission of India in Colombo, a news release issued by Ladies College said.

“The project aims to foster friendships between students and draw similarities from the two cultures. The students have been communicating their views on the ‘Similarities of the two cultures’ and increasing their knowledge and understanding on the two countries since March this year. Prior to the visit, on August 9, students met Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Satyanjal Pandey at the Indian High Commission, during which he encouraged the students to engage with their counterparts and learn about the diversity of values, language, customs, works of art, rituals, etc. that form the Indian culture,” it said.

Commenting on the Indo Lankan Ethnic programme, Vice Principal, Ms. Ranmalee Balasooriya said, “The girls have already communicated via social media and are looking forward to meeting each other and learning about each other’s cultures. I believe this is a wonderful opportunity for our students to get to know their Indian sisters and I believe this will lead to long-lasting cultural bonds of friendships. I thank the India-Sri Lanka Foundation and the Indian High Commission for giving both schools this unique opportunity. We are excited and also look forward to hosting our Indian family in Sri Lanka when they visit us later on this year”.

During the 10-day visit to New Delhi, the students and teachers will reside at St Mark’s World School and engage in classroom activities, besides visiting various cultural sights and places of attraction in the city.
