Govt. increases fuel prices, abolishes quota system
The government yesterday (01) increased fuel prices again and announced the cancellation of the QR code system that was in place to restrict fuel supply in the retail market. The QR code system was meant to drastically drop fuel consumption due to the financial crisis that throttled the economy.
The announcement was made close on the heels of Sinopec, a Beijing-based leading international petroleum company, entering the retail market here, the third player.
Sinopec has so far opened one fuel station at Mattegoda which sold a litre of petrol and diesel Rs 3 less than Ceypetco and LIOC in the wake of the latest fuel increase, effected at midnight Thursday (31)
• 92 Octane Petrol – Rs. 361 (increased by Rs.13)
• 95 Octane Petrol – Rs. 417 (increased by Rs. 42)
• Auto Diesel – Rs. 341 (increased by Rs. 35)
• Super Diesel – Rs. 359 (increased by Rs. 1)
• Kerosene – Rs. 231 (increased by Rs. 5)
