60,930 acres of paddy fields damaged by drought
More than 60,930 acres of paddy fields across the country had been damaged by drought, the Agriculture Ministry said yesterday
A Ministry official said that more than 62,375 farmers had been affected by the drought countrywide.
The highest paddy crop damage of 26,654 acres has been reported from the Kurunegala District and the number of affected farmers is 32,144.
The second highest paddy crop damage has been reported from Udawalawe region.
At least 70,000 acres of paddy are believed to have been damaged by the drought.
