Kandy Customs CC defeated Negombo CC by 35 runs in a Group B fixture of the SLC Major League Tournament at the FTZ Sports Complex, Katunayake while the rest of the fixtures ended in rain marred no decisions.
Negombo CC, chasing 208, was dismissed for 172 having resumed from an overnight 11 for 2 with the efforts of Himesha Liyanage 68 off 46 with 2 boundaries and Madawa Warnapura 36 off 77 with 2 boundaries and a six the only worthwhile contributions in the face of the threesome Kandy Customs attack of Gayan Sirisoma 4 for 75, Yohan Maddege 2 for 20 and Imesh Udayanga 2 for 25.
A highlight of the week-end was BRC’s Nimanda Madushanka, Chilaw Marians Kasun Vidura and Tamil Union C&AC’s Lasith Abeyratne scoring centuries.
The Group A fixture between BRC and Galle CC ended in a high scoring affair following BRC running up 460 for 8 declared on ton up Nimanda Madushanka’s unbeaten 121 off 121 balls topped by 5 over the top and 4 to the boundary. Galle responded with a compelling 324 for 4.
Chilaw Marians Kasun Vidura notched 116 off 181 balls packed with 14 boundaries versus Moors SC in converting an overnight 84 to the dream three figure mark in a total of 321in a Group B game at the Surrey Village Grounds, Maggona. Moors responded with 195 for 4 with opening batsman Janishka Perera unfortunate to miss a well-deserved century by 4 runs.
Lasith Abeyratne scored 100 off 191 with just the boundary and 2 sixes in a Tamil Union total of 339 for 8 declared versus NCC had replied with 130 for 2 in Group B.
