Navy seizes stash of narcotics

The Navy seized over four kilos of Crystal Methamphetamine, over a kilo of heroin, and more than five kilos of hashish during a special search operation conducted in the beach area of Urumalei, Talaimannar, yesterday.

The consignment of drugs was concealed in a dinghy.

The search led to the recovery of four packages of Crystal Methamphetamine weighing 4.2 kilos, a parcel of heroin weighing 1.3 kilos and five packages of hashish weighing 5.2 kilos.  The gross street value of the stock of narcotics is believed to be over Rs. 94 million. The drugs and the dinghy had been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau, Talaimannar for legal action, the Navy said.
