Twenty-three-year-old Dilshan Madushanka proved to be Sri Lanka’s bright spot in its failed world cup campaign by braving all the odds of defeat to claiming 21 wickets. It put him third among the top bowlers with India’s Mohammed Shami leading with 23 wickets and Australia’s Adam Zampa with 22.

Indeed, it was admirable tall stuff for a player who is yet to clear one year of ODI cricket having burst into the limelight debuting against India on January 10, 2023. Madushanka is known to have broken the defence of many top batsmen in the game including India’s super batsman Virat Kohli on more than one occasion.

A left-armer whose strong point has been to generating fast moving swing, Madushanka rose from small beginnings having first played his cricket at Hunugama Vijayabahu Central, Hunugama.

A keen learner quick to master the finer points of the art, Madushanka’s progress in the international firmament in such a short period is something for the youngster and Sri Lanka to be proud of in the gloom of a failed world cup campaign.

Born on September 18, 2000, he has taken 31 ODI wickets from 15 appearances.
