Thileepan commemoration:

The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) official Anjana Chandrasiri yesterday (21) said that they would take legal action to oust Ahila Illankai Thamil Congress parliamentarian Selvarajah Kajendran from Parliament over organising commemorative events to mark the death of LTTE cadre Thileepan at Nallur, Jaffna on Sept 26, 1987.

Chandrasiri said so outside the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) after appearing before the special police unit inquiring into a complaint regarding Thileepan commemoration events held this year.

Thileepan, who was later bestowed the rank of Lt. Colonel by the Tigers, died during a fast unto death staged demanding the withdrawal of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) that was deployed in the North and East in terms of the Indo-Lanka Accord of July 1987.

Two MPs represent the Jaffna based Ahila Ilankai Thamil Congress, the other member being Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam.

Chandrasiri lodged a complaint with the police on September 19, 2023, two days after the commemorative events alleging that MP Kajendran violated two specific provisions in the Constitution (SF)
