Korean volunteer group here to develop social capacity of Lankan students at Kelaniya, Homagama ...

A 25-member Korean volunteer group, sent through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, (KOICA) is here. Having arrived in Sri Lanka on Nov 20, 2023, the group has been divided into three teams and tasked to carry out volunteer work, related to the social sector, for a period of four months, at Kelaniya, Homagama and Galle.

The educational topics of this volunteer group’s activities are largely divided into three. They include global capacity building, global citizenship education, and social emotional learning. First, in the case of global capacity building education, volunteer members support various education that can self-directedly change adolescents’ attitudes and perceptions of life, such as health care education.

Hye-jin Chung, Project Manager of the Korea International Development Cooperation Center (KIDC), who is in charge of the Sri Lankan volunteer group said, “We expect that the dispatch will further boost exchanges between the two countries through active communication and social activities with Sri Lankan students, and further build a more advanced diplomatic and cultural relationship between Korea and Sri Lanka.” The official added that the 25 members will do their best for the next three months to develop the social capacity of Sri Lankan students.
