PUCSL employees call for 25% reduction in power tariffs

The employees of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) have urged the Commission to reduce electricity tariffs by about 25%.
They have stressed that due to ad hoc decisions of some stakeholders, consumers are being fleeced. They are scheduled to meet PUCSL Secretary Rohan Weerasuriya tomorrow (15).
PUCSL has said electricity tariffs will be revised soon, following public consultations and analysis of proposals submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
PUCSL Chairman, Manjula Fernando, yesterday told journalists that public views would be sought at the BMICH on 15 Feb. “After public consultation, the Commission will meet and take immediate steps to reduce electricity tariffs.”
This initiative follows a request by the PUCSL for the CEB to propose revised tariff, considering the CEB’s profits.
On 16 Jan., the CEB presented a proposal recommending a 3.34% tariff reduction.
